Best Gifts for Fans of Donnie Darko!

Donnie Darko is an American cult classic science-fiction film that was released in 2001. The movie’s premiere was scarcely advertised, as the previews included images of crashing airplanes and were due to be aired only a month after the September 11th attacks. Despite this lack of advertising and limited theatrical viewing, Donnie Darko was applauded by critics for its story, tone, and character development. The film was even featured in Empire‘s 50 Greatest Independent Films of All Time.

The film was recorded with a budget of $4.5 million, and after it’s premiere and theater release earned only $7.5 million worldwide. But then the film earned an additional $10 million on the home release alone! It seems the word had gotten out, despite the limited theaters showing the movie!

Since then, viewers have dubbed the film a cult classic and as such has inspired a great many products advertising the messages of the movie! We’ve gathered a great list of items that any Donnie Darko fan would adore!

  1. A TooLoudScaryBunny Hoodie

A lot of the weirdos who like this movie are AVID hoodie fans; trust us, we’re right about this one. Everyone likes to keep warm on those cold nights when Frank the scary feckin bunny beckons to us from our warm beds and tells us about the end of times.

2. Limited Edition Blu-Ray/DVD Set

This boxed set includes the film, all the special features, deleted scenes with the Donnie Darko cast, AND the director’s cut! What every true fan wants! Don’t let the bunny mask make you shy away, Frank is really a good guy once you get to know him.

3. The Donnie Darko Book

The Donnie Darko Book contains every word spoken in the movie (otherwise known as the screenplay), as well as an incredibly thorough interview with the writer and director Richard Kelly. There are also a few pages from The Philosophy of Time, which Donnie uses throughout the movie to travel back in time.

4. The Donnie Darko Funko POP!

Funko POP! collectibles have really given us geeks something to collect. There are a million different characters that have been translated to the Funko POP! language and we are eating. it. up. Even if your friend doesn’t have a bunch of these things displayed throughout their house, they’re sure to appreciate a little bit of their fave film to decorate a corner of their world!

5. Donnie Darko Car Decal

This one warrants an explanation of sorts. Without being too spoilery, Frank relays the message to Donnie that the end of the world is in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds. If that wasn’t weird enough, he was also wearing a bunny suit for the delivery of this message. WHY? WE DON’T KNOW!

6. A Donnie Darko Shotglass

After viewing the film, most adults need a shot of whiskey. Maybe not whiskey, but some kind of liquid fire. This one is ever too appropriate! The black and white duo display the ‘got darko?’ perfectly! Dishwasher safe!

7. The Full Donnie Darko Bunny Suit

Just imagine the shenanigans that can be had with this suit. Off the top of our heads, we came up with snipe hunting, Halloween, any Donnie Darko party or event, Easter (if you’re really twisted), and a horror house! Includes a furry onesie, gloves, and the mask! We are positive that the purchaser of this costume will have the FBI surveilling your internet history tho…. just sayin’.

8. The Donnie Darko Bunny Mask

For those who are a bit afraid of what one could accomplish with an entire ensemble like that, we offer just the mask. The mask could still be used for a variety of occasions, but more subtly paired with a normal outfit so as not to scare the children. (Please note, most children are afraid of Frank)

9. A Donnie Darko Coffee Mug

Honestly, who doesn’t want a color changing coffee mug? At room temperature, the mug is a matte black. When any hot liquid is added, the cup transforms and ‘got donnie?’ is revealed! Dishwasher safe!
